Playmobil Castles

The Playmobil castle is a great way to introduce your young one to the world of medieval wonder and enchantment. While the company still produces many fine playthings for children, it seemed to reach its peak in imaginative items in the 1980′s. That’s when the company had not only medieval toys, but a space ship, pirates, and Old West play sets available. Kids then could easily immerse themselves into other times and places well before they started school. When they did start studying those things in school, learning about history was somewhat easier for them, because they felt like they’d already seen it. The company produced a generation of children with some of the most vivid imaginations around.

You can still find the Playmobil castle on eBay, in some specialty shops both on and offline, and at garage sales, and it’s well worth it to get one for your child. There’s nothing like stimulating imagination at an early age and educating as soon as possible. In fact, the founder of the company even stated once that the rather smooth, featureless appearance of many of its toys that evoked shapes rather than objects was meant to stimulate the imagination. It definitely worked. When you played with a castle playset or other toys from this company, they could be almost anything you wanted them to be.

The Playmobil castle and other similar toys were designed primarily for toddlers who had not yet started school. It’s at these young ages that a child’s imagination is the most susceptible to suggestion and learning takes place most easily, almost effortlessly. However, lots of children fell in love with their undetailed toys from Playmobil and continued to secretly play with them (without telling their friends, of course) alone at home or with their siblings well into elementary school. The enchantment of the toys was just that alluring.

Of course, the company still produces enchanting and alluring toys, but they are far more generalized these days. Those who grew up with the fantasy playsets remember the heyday of the company fondly and want to reproduce it for their own kids. If you’d like your child to experience the joy you had at their age with a smooth, rounded plastic castle and vaguely featured kings and knights, find them a Playmobil castle as soon as you’re able.

one of the favorites at Christmas this year, January 13, 2009

My son *loves* this castle…he has yet to stop playing with it, and it was one of his favorite gifts from Santa this year….the only complaint that Santa had was it did take a while to put together.

I had read the other reviews on this product before purchasing, and am so glad I did…we put it together Christmas Eve so it was ready to go the next morning…took a little over 2 hours all told to assemble, but very fun and durable…would definitely recommend!!

All we expected and more!, January 3, 2009

My son (6) got this for Christmas and loves it. Part of the fun is putting it together which the whole family got involved in. At one point, a small mistake I made made it seem like it would come apart but I found the problem, connected the wall properly and it is FANTASTIC. Great battles are fought and won with this castle. The dragon knights have control one day, the king’s knights and the good guys the next! Even the pirates have sailed up in their playmobil ship and taken over the castle. (We obviously have other playmobil sets!) The pterodatyl haunts the castle after travelling through time to help the dragon or ward him off… what more can I say? I’m not sure who has more fun with playmobil in our family! Thank goodness for a quality toy that has no Disney or movie endorsements selling it. The best sell is the fun your child will have with their own imagination!!!!
